She launched the site last week and I wish her all the best. PLEASE visit the site and start using it and/or telling your friends about it. http://stilettomarket.com

Where is Style Bytes?????

For the past month I've been wondering what happened to my favorite blogger Agathe from StyleBytes. She was my inspiration for starting a blog in the first place and now she is nowhere to be found. Her pictures are always great eye candy and she has great DIY ideas. So if anyone knows anything spread the word because we all miss reading her lovely posts.:-)
Apparently she is alive because this I found this blog that gives a detailed look on Agathe and where she has been. Take a look and see for yourself. Here is the one of the photos from the page.

I'm officially a stalker.....

YSL

Hi everyone. I haven't posted anything in a while mainly because of work and the warm weather has kept me outside and away from computers. Today this post will unfortunately be sad.....
Yves Saint Laurent died in his Paris home yesterday after a long illness at the age of 71. I believe he changed the way women dress and feel in the workplace with the trim pantsuits and tuxedos. I heard this quote today and I believe it sums him up. "Chanel gave women freedom" and Saint Laurent "gave them power". Laurent became head of the Dior fashion house at the age of 21 after Dior died in 1957. Laurent had an extremely impressive life and he inspires me to be more ambitious.
So for now here are some photos of some of his work that will make us all remember him and smile.:-)

Cake

Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in finding anything at the flea market on Saturday. The markets in the Manhattan always have a lot of tourists so they up the prices a lot. Maybe this weekend I will go to one of the other markets in Brooklyn. Sunday Elliot and I had brunch at our usual place with a very good friend of mine and her husband. After that I had the urge to bake a cake. I decided on red velvet with cream cheese icing and it turned out so beautiful. For dinner I made Chicken Francese with rice.

My camera kinda sucks so my pictures will as well until I figure out how to use it better.

Outdoor Flea Market Day

Today the weather is so pretty. Finally I can start going to the outdoor flea markets in Chelsea again. Today Elliot and I are going to have brunch and then go hop around town and see what goodies we can find. He needs a new pair of jeans so we might go to Soho to visit H&M. I am so excited because these markets always have jewelry for cheap.....jewelry that I can take apart and put back together. I'm hoping to find some vintage charms as well so I can finally start making more pieces and giving it to my friends. For now here is a picture of Fonda in our kitchen window while I make coffee.

It's easy to forget we live in Brooklyn from looking out our back window.

Happy April Everyone!

Here is a little something to read.....

APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.

Winter kept us warm, covering
Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
A little life with dried tubers.

Summer surprised us, coming over the Starnbergersee
With a shower of rain; we stopped in the colonnade,
And went on in sunlight, into the Hofgarten,
And drank coffee, and talked for an hour.

Bin gar keine Russin, stamm' aus Litauen, echt deutsch.

And when we were children, staying at the archduke's,
My cousin's, he took me out on a sled,
And I was frightened.

He said, Marie,
Marie, hold on tight. And down we went.

In the mountains, there you feel free.

I read, much of the night, and go south in the winter.

A Favorite Song

This is what I have been listening to lately. It's one of my favorite bands Arcade Fire covering an old France Gall song. I love French music so much and especially France Gall. Enjoy!

Nylon and LOST

I am so excited! My boyfriend got me a subscription to Nylon and they finally started coming in the mail so guess what I will be doing tonight (in between LOST of course). Maybe I will cook a nice dinner for Elliot and I to enjoy.:-)

I'm back for now

I know I have been updating this blog very sporadically and I am not ashamed to say it is due to pure laziness. Lately I have been spending more time with my friends, going out to dinner, and spending more time in my office because of new responsibilities I have. Last Sunday a friend threw an Easter party that was fun but in the end we all decided that Easter is a dumb holiday and we will not be celebrating it again.
Today I am working from my office and reading every fashion magazine we have to pass the time until a meeting. Right now everyone is wrapping up spring designs and starting to focus on Fall 09. If any of you don't know I work for a show company called Steven by Steve Madden.
There are so many things to look forward to right now with the new warm weather on its way! These are some of my influences and recent purchases.......the shoes are Steven of course.

Ladies with Class

Okay so it's obvious I've been M.I.A. for the past week or so but Elliot and I have both been sick. :-( I think the worst is over and now we can get back on track with everything. Today I am in my office and reading stupid celebrity gossip sites to pass the time. I usually try and stay away from these but today I'm glad I did. I came across these pics of Kate Moss that made me laugh. She's a little worse for wear in these pictures but I feel better just from laughing a little. I do not want this blog to be some place for celebrity gossip so don't expect to see other posts like this.

Back at home

Well Elliot and I finally made it back from our vacation. Unfortunately I came down with a cold so today I am relaxing and spending time with Fonda. I read an "Play it as it Lays" by Joan Didion, made a fantastic bolognese sauce, drank local Virginia wines, and got plenty of sleep. The house we were staying in did not get an internet signal so I was unable to write anything for everyone :-(.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful day! I am looking forward to writing and getting back in my normal rhythm after recovering from my cold.

Vacation Day

Today is the day we leave for the country side. Finally it's here and I am going to spend the day preparing so we can leave later this evening when Elliot gets home. Right now I am making coffee and eating dried fruit and making sure I spend lots of time with Fonda before we leave. My friend Joe is going to be caring for her while we are gone.
Until I can get relaxed here are some highlights from NYC Fashion Week. It ended last week so all this week everyone at my office has been reflecting to interpret it into something we believe in.:-)

MGMT

I'm so happy I live in Brooklyn! We have so many fun bands popping up all the time.
Here is a friends band called the MGMT. They are way psychedelic so be prepared because this video is wacky. They are on tour with Yeasayer now and are starting a European tour at the end of the month. Go see them if you can.:-)

New Shoe Find

Last week I discovered these fantastic shoes. They are based out of Chicago and all the shoes are handmade. The shoes are made of recycled tires and Finnish birch plywood core. You can't put a price on something that is crafted so well. All the more reason for springtime to arrive right?
They are called Mohop (http://www.mohop.com) and everyone should check them out. It's a very original piece of art for your feet.:-)

Runway

Never have I really wanted a pantsuit like I do now. I think the era I grew up in was used to our mothers pantsuits and some of them were pretty bad. Big shoulder pads.....thats all I remember is big shoulder pads.
Here are some refreshing looks that are sexy to say the least.

Again, I am so excited about this weekend. I have to ask a friend to take care of our cat Fonda! I almost forgot.;-)

New issue of Vogue

Even though I didn't really watch the Grammys (boring) I still read about the results the next day. Of course Amy Winehouse won a few awards.;-)
Despite her having a hard time these days I still like reading about her and especially listening to her! The new Paris Vogue features Isabeli Fontana giving their tribute to her. It totally makes me want to wear mini skirts and tiny shorts! I can't wait for warmer weather......
New York is so frigid today!!

Last night I went out went a few friends a drank a little too much for a Monday night. Oh well, today I am going to keep planning our weekend vacation.
Enjoy these photos!

Weekend Getaway

I am so excited about Elliot and I getting away for the weekend. Most New Yorkers have a country house or beach house that they go away to on the weekends. We are lucky enough to have a place like this to go to.
So, even though we are going to be relaxing I want to have super comfy clothes to wear. Diane Keaton in Annie Hall comes to mind when going on a weekend trip.

She looks so casual and effortlessly cool. Maybe I will hunt for some new trousers this week. I have plenty of vests and button ups and hats.
I am going to read, cook, drink lots of wine and love every minute of this weekend.
I'm sure I will have tons of posts this week as I prepare for our mini vacation!
I've seen lots of these pants around lately and they fit my idea of "weekend cool".

Boutique Shopping

I finally visited one of the local boutiques in our new neighborhood. It's called Dalaga (http://dalaganyc.com/) and it is so charming. The day I went in I wasnt looking for anything inparticular but left with a great new bag. This boutique is owned by a super cool married couple and they are very down to earth people. If any of you ever get a chance to check it out you should. Visit the link I included.
Between learning piano, work, and life in general this blog had taken a backseat these past two weeks. This weekend Elliot and I are going to the country house to relax, record music, drink wine, and just get away from the city for a few days. I will have plenty of time to reflect on fashion week and anything else that comes to mind.

Two New Pieces of Jewelry!

Today I woke up early, made myself some coffee and got to work on a few jewelry projects. I have so many ideas! Today I made two new sets of earrings out of old broken jewelry of mine. There is a third piece that is not completed yet but it's my favorite. I'll have pics of that as soon as it is done.
For now here are the two newest pieces......
Now I am going to go make waffles for breakfast with our new waffle iron.

Beccas Birthday Wish List

I love this Nanette Lepore Rufflet Dress. I found something similar in new boutique beside my apartment last week but my budget wouldn't let me buy it. I am so ready to start wearing spring clothes but here in New York the cold weather is really just beginning. This time of year it starts to snow a lot! Yikes, better put my sunny day dreams aside for now.

New Tools!

I got an early birthday gift recently and I was able to go buy tools to get myself started on making jewelry. Today I made a very simple necklace from the chains I bought and an old charm I found in my jewelry box. It's a simple necklace but it's a start! Also I repaired a vintage find of mine that was broken. It's actually a clock when you open it.
I posted a not so good pic of some of the new tools I got. Wire cutters and different types of pliers.
Hopefully I will be making and repairing lots of jewelry in the future!

First Post

Here goes...
Since being inspired by reading other girls fashion blogs I thought it was time for me to have my own. I work for a shoe company and am always looking for influence and new trends for shoes. Hopefully this blog will help.
I'm so excited to get started!
